Swing
dancing returns to Fort Mason Center as dance instructor Diana Castillo
resumes her popular classes, voted "Best Place to Learn Swing-Jitterbug"
by North Beach Now!
Castillo teaches City/Street Swing, also called Retro Swing or East
Coast Style. Whatever the name, participants learn boogie-woogie,
jump, jive, and the Charleston and some Lindy Hop.
There are three classes for different levels and ages. Whether you
take the Teen Swing Class, Beginning Swing-Jitterbug, or Intermediate
Lindy Hop, Castillo adds variations, combines moves, and helps you
learn leading and following techniques.
Swing
has enjoyed a widespread revival in the past few years, with San
Francisco establishing itself as a center for the latest retro craze.
Castillo, however, is no newcomer to the Swing world. She has more
than two decades of experience, and has taught at Fort Mason Center
for nearly a decade. Her classes offer a relaxed, informal session
and, best of all, you donšt need to bring a partner to participate.
Swing/Jitterbug classes are held every Wednesday in the Landmark
Building C at Ft. Mason. Beginning at 7pm, and Intermediate at 8pm.
